The Client: Quikliter

The Challenge: Channel Products is an OEM manufacturer of piezo and electronic igniters for gas barbeque grills for Charbroil®, Weber®, Broilmaster® and others. Having no experience in the retail sector, they approached me about building an ecommerce site. They wanted to offer their entire product line as well as an inventory of outdated products taking up space in their warehouse. While the focus would be on the pushbutton piezo they wanted to upsell the higher margin electronic igniters. It was also important to show profitibility on the site as soon as possible. So marketing was a key component.

The Solution: The site has an old west look, reinforcing the theme used by many in the barbeque food industry. This differentiated Quikliter from their competition whose sites are more text-image-form designs. By focusing on an audience looking for replacement igniters for their existing grills we were able to secure top placement with search engines and drive sales. Built on a robust and scaleable open source ecommerce engine (OSC), the site is easy to maintain and update with new products.

My Role: Market research, marketing plan, design, information architecture, restructuring of ecommerce engine, ongoing maintenance.

Update: Since my initial design the company has gone through some restructuring and the ecommerce initiative has been abandoned.
